Welcome to the first edition of Theory & Practice’s newsletter!
I am so excited to have you join our community. Theory & Practice is all about helping you make your twenties a little less chaotic and a little more joyful. We focus on anything and everything self-help to help you become more productive and intentional in your career and relationships.
Work and love may not be all there is, but let’s be real:
Work and love take up A LOT of time and mental energy.
And because of this, I want T&P to help ease the anxiety & spiraling thoughts associated with both.
If you don’t know me, I’m Ana. I created the Theory & Practice podcast in 2023 to encourage self-discovery and self-reflection. Since its launch, T&P has evolved. The first few podcast episodes focused on wellness. Then we shifted to creativity and entrepreneurship. Today, we’ve evolved to focus on everything and anything related to self-help, work and love for those of us in our twenties.
This new direction is more specific, authentic and in service to you. As a fellow twenty-something myself, I’ve spent more than enough time spiraling about my career and relationships. I know the pain.
T&P is here to ease that spiral and guide you through your twenties: the job changes, cross-country moves, breakups, engagements and birthdays.
How? With thoughtful content delivered on our podcast, social feeds and now this newsletter :)
Here’s what you can expect in the weekly newsletter…

Become More Productive & Intentional
2 Tips for Work:
Build your identity capital: On this week’s T&P episode, clinical psychologist and best-selling author of The Defining Decade, Dr. Meg Jay, explained the importance of learning and crafting the skills and knowledge that our jobs (and hobbies) allow us to collect. Our twenties are for creating our identity capital: the collection of these assets. As we grow older, these assets compound. It’s in our best interest to begin mindfully building this collection now, while we are young. For more info on identity capital, download the T&P reflection guide for The Defining Decade.
Maximize your time: Dr. Jay also discussed the importance of maximizing our time in our twenties. In this decade of adulthood, our biggest asset is time. How can we spend it wisely? Is it taking on more responsibility at work? Getting a graduate degree? Having a side hustle? Think about how you can maximize your time now. How could doing so help you create the career of your dreams?
2 Tips for Love:
Differences are differences: In The Defining Decade, Dr. Jay shares the story of a patient who complains about her boyfriend. After she’s finished, Dr. Jay asks “Are these foundational incompatibilities we’re talking about, or are you not letting you and Matt be different?” In a relationship, differences may not be foundational incompatibilities. They may just be… differences. And that’s okay.
Know yourself before you wreck yourself: Just kidding. But not really. In the updated version of The Defining Decade, Dr. Jay outlines 29 questions to ask your date/partner/potential partner. In our conversation, she encourages us to have these questions with ourselves first and foremost. Self-reflection is an important part of the dating/relationship equation.

What I’m Reading | Listening To | Recommending
Reading: I’m almost done with Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton. OMG. So good. This memoir perfectly encapsulates the chaotic twentysomething experience.
Listening To: I recently attended a Creative Mornings talk in New York City. Liz Tran, author & executive coach gave a talk on agility. You can watch/listen to her talk here. Liz’s portion starts at 18:26. P.S. I got to pitch Theory & Practice at the event too! My pitch comes at 50:43.
Recommending: A gratitude practice. I explain how you can begin yours here.
