Hi friends 💖
This is part two of the “The Power of Affirmations” series. Check out Part 1: Affirmations for Self-Love here.
So here’s the thing: I’ve been working with a coach… a business coach. I’m doing it because I’m taking Theory & Practice more seriously (aka I’m building it to become a cash-flow business).
Side note: I highly recommend working with him.
Anyway, my coach, Ben, is helping me with two things:✨ mindset ✨and 📄 strategy 📄.
The strategy piece is for another newsletter edition, but the mindset piece is where affirmations come in. Remember, by repeating positive statements, we can change the way we think, feel and act.
During one of our first sessions, he emphasized the importance of affirmations for career growth. Most of us have heard of affirmations for self-love, but affirmations for business and career can be so powerful, too.
Early into working together, Ben shared four tips to make a habit out of affirmations. I have followed through with every tip and after 4 months, I know they’re working. Negative thoughts that creep in about Theory & Practice have a lot less power than before. My thoughts are different. I even feel more aligned to the identity of someone who builds something out of nothing, if that makes sense? I’m also behaving differently than before. I dedicate a lot more time to building Theory & Practice and I follow through with what I say I will do.
The feelings influence the thought. The thoughts influence the behavior.
Affirmations = Feel —> Think —> Behave
Here are Ben’s tips to making a habit out of affirmations for your career growth:
Create affirmations that feel attainable and authentic.
Say your affirmations out loud! Don’t just think them.
Frame them in a positive light.
Habit-stack your affirmations (I say my affirmations every time I walk up and down the stairs of my building).

2 Tips for Work:
Invest in your growth: Always be eager to learn and up-level the skills relevant to your career. Consider online courses, workshops, fellowships or trainings available at your company. Stay updated and relevant to enhance your confidence and marketability. Check out Masterclass, Coursera, EdX and more.
Make a list of your mentors: Create a list of your mentors. This will help you identify the key people who can provide guidance and support in your career journey. Categorize how they could help you (i.e. Mark —> Marketing at Startup, Jane —> Creative Agency Perspective, Lauren —> Creator Economy Expert). Have a diverse group of mentors also allows you to gain different perspectives, empowering you to make informed decisions and build a strong network.
2 Tips for Love:
Embrace solitude: Create a ritual to embrace solitude. Whether you have a weekly hot girl walk by yourself or go to your favorite workout class every Friday or you go to the movies on your own every Tuesday night — do something to enjoy being by yourself.
Celebrate wins: Make it a point to celebrate your friends' achievements, big or small. Recognize their successes by sending them a little gift or a handwritten card. Maybe you simply venmo them $5 for a coffee to make their week.

Reading: "My personal rule is that it's a good idea to be patient as long as I'm in the mix. If I'm taking action, putting in my reps, and trying things out, then I should remain patient and see what opportunities arise. But if I'm not taking action consistently, then I'm not practicing patience. I'm just waiting." - James Clear
